Wave power centre secures funding

Efforts to create what
has been described as a "world-leading" centre of marine renewable
energy have secured a £1m funding package.
UHI Millennium Institute and Heriot-Watt University are project partners in the
Environmental Research Institute (ERI) in Thurso.

'Dynamic conditions'
The package will fund four new research appointments.
ERI director Dr Stuart Gibb said: "The Scottish Executive wants 40% of Scotland's electricity to be generated from renewable resources by 2020.
"It is widely acknowledged that marine energy may hold the key to achieving these targets and the dynamic conditions of the Pentland Firth presents unrivalled opportunities for research and development."
