Experiment 8:

Air pressure.

This experiment allows you to discover the great strength of air pressure.
Introduction:

Materials required:

A glass
Transparent bowl / basin containing water (deeper than the glass)

Experiment:

Put the glass into the water and turn upside down.
Lift up the glass, but without the rim going above the surface of the water

The pressure of air on the surface of the water in the bowl pushes the water up into the glass. If the rim of the glass was raised above the surface of the water, air should enter and push the water outside. Then the glass would empty
The level of water in the glass rises, so that this is higher than the water outside the glass
