Experiment 4:
What colour is light ?
Introduction:
Materials
required:
White cardboard
Ruler
A protactor
A geometry compass
Scissors
A 2 cm nail
Various colors of paint
Pencils
Experiment:
Cut
a 10 cm circle out of the white cardboard.
Using the protractor, divide the cardboard circle into 7 equal sections, with
each section at about 51º
Colour the sections in this order; red, orange, yellow, green, sky blue, indigo
and violet
This
shows that white light is made up of different colours.
What
happens?
Poke
a nail into the hole in the centre of the circle.
Use the nail to make the cardboard spin as quickly as possible.
If
you turn the circle fast enough,
it will appear white. You can't make out the different colours.
In
this experiment, the students will learn that white light is really made up
of many different colours.
