River Sediments and Water Quality Management

Dr Marc Stutter- Macaulay Institute, Aberdeen

31 January 2008

Certain activities and land uses increase soil erosion in catchments. Fine particles may then be transported to watercourses where, if present in excess, they can negatively impact on stream habitats.

In this talk, Dr Stutter will examine how and why excess amounts of certain types of sediments may interact with stream ecosystems and be of concern to water quality. He will give examples from catchment studies evaluating practical measures to address sediment issues in Scotland’s watercourses.
