RASLRES - Regional Approach to Stimulating Local Renewable Energy Solutions

The RASLRES project will design, pilot and publicise the best product services to create and sustain markets for renewable energy solutions in local rural areas. The objective of the project - funded under the Northern Periphery Programme (NPP) - is to increase the deployment and uptake of locally produced renewable energy solutions in the NPP area through the development and implementation of targeted market stimulation models (or ‘MSMs').

The project is being led by the Western Development Commission in Ireland and partners include Action Renewables (Northern Ireland), Environmental Research Institute (Scotland), Municipality of Norsjo (Northern Sweden) and associate partners from Finland, Faroe Islands and Ireland.

RASLRES-supported pilot models will ensure that locally managed - and owned - supply systems and business models will be used to produce and use renewable energy. The project will also support the development of tools to measure rural greenhouse gas emissions and assist in the setting-up of a network for transnational exchange for knowledge, policy initiatives, technology and methodologies. The Environmental Research Institute is leading the work for developing the tools to measure rural greenhouse gas emissions.
